Q: My blog has a new URL. What are the next steps?

  1. A:

If the domain of your blog is different (example: myblog.blogspot.com is now myblog.com), please note that we are unable transfer or combine links from different URLs at this time. Links are URL-based and are unique citations to that blog at that time.

However, if you permanently redirect the old blog URL to the new blog URL by sending a permanent redirect response (HTTP Status 301) to anyone requesting the old URL, it will help consolidate your online blog presence for all web aggregators and help have your links reestablished eventually. Apache's mod_rewrite is a popular method of handling such requests.

  2. A:

If the domain of your blog is a subset of the other (example: myblog.com/blog is now myblog.com), links are already counted under the new URL.

Just to clarify, link count and URL search results are URL specific. The search results you see for "myblog.com" are for all links to the blog at "myblog.com", as well as links to anything beginning with "myblog.com" which would include post permalinks.

  3. A:

Avoid duplicate indexing To avoid duplicate indexing and to avoid confusion between the old and new URL, you can submit a support ticket from our Support Contact Form with the URL that you'd like to mark as old.

We can make the appropriate changes so that your blog will no longer be indexed or listed in our Blog Directory under the older URL. Unfortunately, this may not remove all previously indexed posts and links from the URL, but it should apply to all the new ones so that indexing only occurs at new URL.

  4. A:

    Update it in your account

Essentially you will need to reclaim your blog with the New URL and remove the claim to your blog at the old URL
