  1. Losing rank by the hour.

Seems that way. I saw someone lost 20,000 in their rank as well as a huge drop in authority. It’s been happening to me although not as bad. Two weeks ago I was at an authority of 165 with a rank around 29K, and each day since it keeps dropping. After two years of solid growth without a drop. My site traffic is the same. My Feedburner subscriptions actually show an increase to an all-time high. My content is the same, frequency of posting the same. I ping after each post.

But now, my rank drops like this after two years? Is someone I link to doing something funny that's affecting my rank? I also read the FAQ on writing relevant content, etc. The site stats above indicate to me that that's not the problem. So, anyone from technorati, got any ideas because at this rate I’ll be down to an authority of 0 in a month.

    ;-p

    Thanks.

Yeah, me too—steady drop, no updating authority with new links. I have noticed that many of my previous reactions have suddenly been redated to, in some cases, over 13 thousand days ago, which would just about make me drinking buddies with Paul Baran.

I think they forget to change the batteries or wind up their server from time to time. I have been getting a 403 forbidden error and an Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://advertising-age.blogspot.com. Operation aborted now for 3 weeks with no one responding from technorati on any support channel. The only solution was to remove everything technorati from my blog, and everything became normal again. Something's wrong with their widget codes while they're out having pina coladas.

My rank and authority have been dropping for the past few weeks. I started blogging since 2004 and there had been a stable increase in my ranking, until recently, around August. I used to have about 516 in Authority (it was about my highest), then it dropped gradually (although i can see new blog reactions EVERYDAY). It cannot be happening. It's as if the more blog reactions i get, the lower my Authority isr. It's completely disturbing and devastating.

I hope that i can get an explanation why it is happening. If not i'll end up binging myself to death due to bad moods. :(

Please help and thanks a cheezillion. Oh and my blog is http://cheeserland.com

    Hello cheeserland,

This FAQ may help explain authority better:
    http://support.technorati.com/faq/topic/71

Essentially Authority is based on the number of blogs that have linked to yours in the past 180 days. Thus as links age out of this window your Authority will rise and fall depending on the number of new links received vs the number of links the age out.

    I hope this helps!

LOL that authority faq is posted in every one of these authority threads.

Something is clearly wrong. My blog has been increasing in authority for 3 years and for the past few weeks has been losing it -- sometimes dramatically.

If this continues it will have authority of less than 100!

Admin, I'm not trying to be a jerk, but that form letter dog don't hunt. That's the same FAQ response I've seen given to everyone with this very real problem, and it's not about 'writing better content' either. If there were other problems with my stats, I might agree with the dropped off the list theory, but EVERY other metric on my site show has increased. Email subscrips, traffic, Alexa ranking, etc. If my tech really was dropping, shouldn't there be a correlation there? So how do all my other stats go up while Technorati drops DRASTICALLY. This problem only started recently. I would think technorati would have a record of my history to see what caused this all of a sudden.

And if it was a cycling issue, why wouldn't it it have already occurred several times over two years now? It hasn't at all. But now, all of a sudden in the span of a month, it does?

Even still, the FAQ says a switch may have occurred in May. This problem didn't happen with me until mid-September!

And now tonight, I have someone linking off my blog through technorati and when I go there, their site has no links back to mine.

Something is up and it's not because blogs I've linked to for a long time fell off any list.

Your 6 month window effectively screws the concept of blogrolls. But you knew that, right?

this is insane!i had a 386 authority 2 days ago,but i found out that my update didnt show up,i read the FAQ,and it said i should PING,so i did it,but the result?i lost 31 authority...okay..i thought it was because i had my blog leave.now,im active again and exchanging blog links with new bloggers i met,my authority should rise,it didnt change so i PINGED again..and OMG!after 2 hours or so,from 355 rank,it became 214????how possible is that??after several hours,my blog friends would have deleted me to their blogs??i was on 10k ranking and now what?? technorati authority and page ranking(i have PR 4) is really essential to me and im working on it to be PR 5.

Please be kind to check my site.I just couldnt believe it!!

Hi folks sometimes I feel like quitting this place for good. As many you my authority was growing steadily till, and this is my opinion, some smart techie decided to tweak the algorythm for a change. Now we are all sinking. The problem is not the fact that we lose authority, cause we know that is false, the thing is that when you show your authority badge with pride every visitor on the page says, hey this guy is losing fuel lately, let's get the hell out of here. And so the story goes, we sink deeper. I am setting an eye on this, and I have little strength left. Some here must be aware of the fact that nothing lasts forever. I wish someone took care of this inconvenience soon.

Well I went from an 8k rank to a 24k rank. Because you, ADMIN, and your little Technorati code nazi's have decided to fuck over blog rolls. Should I ask 400 or so of my closest friends to what...remove me from their blog roll for a couple of weeks and then re-add me? I don't think so.

So here is where we stand Technorati. How is YOUR rank calculated? You all like it when we, your serfs, link you to you with your stupid halfwit coded widgets right? Well guess what?

YOUR AUTHORITY JUST WENT DOWN CAUSE I WAXED YOUR ASS OFF MY BLOG.

    Get fucked.

    Posted: 2007-10-09 10:05:29

So a blog that still has 10,000 links from 2006 could conceivably have an Authority Rank of 0 if nobody links in the past six months? That seems ludicrous if a blog has a historic foundation of linkage.

And I have lost all my blogrolling links in this change. That is equally ludicrous.

Bottom line: Tachnorati is NOT measuring True Authority. It is only measuring who gathered the most links in the past six months. Bring back the old measurement.

hi gang just to cheer you up one of my blogs has lost 400 links since the new wave of the may update and 100 in the last 2 days , hourly as lookzgood2me says. this inspite of hundreds of new links and dozens in the last 2 days.

although i wouldn't put it in those exact words :-) i think starrchile has the answer if we do as we've been done to maybe we'll get some action.

it's even worse than starrchile thinks it' like ronfranscell says because 90% of blogrolls are not counted at all now, blogrolling, bloglines etc. because they are javascript generated.

those with an interest will find some answers and history in this post Technorati wacks Blogrolling, the rest of us are just Collateral Damage which unfortunately remains timely.

if you'd like to try and increase rank and authority you can try the Hey Technorati My Authority is not getting updated! Blogroll which also includes some history and answers.

What other similar services exist? Frankly, Technorati doesn't seem inclined to address these concerns, so rather than waste our breath complaining/cajoling/commenting to the unseen ADMIN, we should simply moved to a service that serves our preferences. If sufficient numbers of people move to an alternative service, then Technorati's value to advertisers drops precipitously and they either serve their next generation of customers better, or they die.

Anybody got any suggestions for a service that would be more responsive?

Link measurement? There is The Truth Laid Bear. There is MyBlogLog for keeping a clearing house of blogs you like. Link trackers like Technocrapi? Not sure. I killed all my widgets and links. They can bite me :P

    Posted: 2007-10-10 06:00:31

newscoma: A few months ago, Technorati changed its link/rank/authority rules. It now measures only links put up in the last 6 months. Older links don't die, but they cease to be measured by Technorati. And it's likely that any blogrolls you joined aren't being measured at all. Basically, links/rank/measurement are now only a reflection of the past six months.

    It's hogwash, but it's ... Technorati.

    R.I.P Technorati.

I've dropped about 50 points overnight.
Technorati rank and authority is no longer reliable.
They're going to lose a LOT of bloggers because of this.

Mine has dropped also, over the last 2 days even thought I have received about 10 new inlinks.

And as my blog hasn't been going for more than 4 months the 180 day rule doesnt apply.

    This is getting frustrating.

I've had to give up as well. The fact that they are so unresponsive is what is doing it. As I've mentioned, I've gone from 777 to 82 in 6 or 7 weeks. None of my links have changed. NONE! No one has dropped me.

Not counting blogrolls is just ridiculous!

But the worse thing of all, in my opinion, is the absolute indifference to all who have been complaining. (I've been on their asses for 2 months now...) They don't respond to emails except to provide that same link they offer each and every time.

They are choosing to ignore us. That's the truth of the matter.

I don't want any more form letters or canned responses. Get someone with some *authority* to addres this issue, explain to people or shut the hell down!

There is nothing, nothing, worse than any business that chooses to and blatantly ignores its users. That is arrogance beyond anything I can imagine.

I went from top 6k to 45K in three days. From a 500 Authority to a 100s. I would like to know what is up as well. It seems awfully odd to drop that much.

I created a new blog THE BAYOU within the last month. At least three blogs immediately linked to it -- likely several more. Yet Technorati reflects only one link ... and while my other personal blogs' links continue to dwindle, THE BAYOU languishes with its lonely 1 link, even though any blogger in the world can see that other blogs link to it.

So Technorati's problems are not only that it has changed its rules for what constitutes legitimate linkage. It also is hit-and-miss in its measurements. Bottom line: For a service thatv exists mainly to track linkage, rank and authority, Technorati is failing miserably. Its data is grossly untrustworthy.

I'm burning through authority numbers too at http://clarityofnight.blogspot.com. I lost about 20% in a week.

I can understand blowing out a link in 180 days if it disappears from a top page; however, blowing out blogroll links makes no sense. Those are current links and the blog author is making a constant decision to leave the link there.

BTW, new links are not showing either.
